Food, Glorious Food

Angel Food-We all have to eat sometime.

OK, you know we Americans eat out too often.  It is quick and convenient.  However, if you are on this blog, you want to live on less and do it in style.

Some quick ideas for nutrition on a tight budget:  Angel Food, beans, rice, whole chicken, oatmeal.  You can do it.  Angel food is available in many communities and it is the best bargain I can find for protein food items.  You pay in advance and then on the delivery day, you go pick up your box of wonderful food.  You get what they select, but you will know in advance what the delivery will provide.  It is usually an assortment of frozen chicken, turkey, beef, or pork, a fresh fruit or veggie, some canned goods, a dozen eggs and one desert item such as a pie.  I think they may be heavy on subsidized products, but it is all first quality.  Yes, you have to take it home and cook it.

A box is meant to provide meals for four people to last one week.  One box would feed me and my daughter for an entire month.  With Angel Food, there is no qualification.  Anyone can purchase as many boxes as they like.  It is a great budget extender.  All you need to add is milk and bread.  Google Angel Food in your area.  You should be able to see the entire menu, pick up sites, and how to pay online if you like. If you run a food pantry for the needy, this is a good way to have healthy items on hand at a very reasonable price.  I love this program.  It is fast and well planned.  I  have never had any trouble with the pick up.  If they have some item that you don't care for, you can donate it back to the program.  Bon Appetite', angels!

Angel Food appears to be offering a wider variety of choices now. There are some meals that are prepared ahead that would be perfect for a senior shut-in, or someone who can't cook for themselves. Also, the have added more "kid friendly" choices for the after school snacking crowd. They just keep getting better and better.

This article has some very heads-up information on shopping at Whole Foods (very expensive store compared to others) and ways to keep your grocery purchases organic and healthy but for less. That's what it's all about!http://shine.yahoo.com/channel/food/what-you-should-buy-at-whole-foods-and-what-to-skip-2440250/
