Some new things are such a vital part of modern living that we really cannot go without getting brand new and reliable items. Computers and other technology often fall into that category. I don't recommend being an early adapter - one of the first people to try a new gizmo. For example, the apple i-pad is the top selling electronic device in the world right now. It is a wonderful, portable way to work and enjoy many things. I haven't sprung for one yet, but I think my time is coming. Apple is coming out with the next generation i-pad. Guess what will happen to the price of new, first generation i-pads? I will be right in line and just as happy with my earlier style i-pad as my friends are with theirs.
Speaking of techy type things, laptops are portable, small and much desired for many applications. You don't need to take money out of your retirement savings to afford a very nicely featured, brand new laptop for around $600. What is essential is to know what your top usage needs might be. Gaming, graphics, business applications, traveling for work, watching streaming video on your HD tv at home? Then pick out a lap top that can do what you need it to do. The following clip has some very nice suggestions. The models will come and go, but the logic of how to decide and what to ask at the store remains the same. I think that as this area of sales remains very competitive, you will continue to see price drops over certain features, just as the price for cell phones and calling plans continues to drop. Just a few minutes of research will save you hundreds! See this short video for some great laptop options:
